The Board maintains 605km of watercourse which involves the clearing of vegetation from the channel to ensure a clear passage for the flow of water. This work is generally carried out between August and December when the farm crops have been harvested and birds have finished nesting. The Board’s methods of maintenance endeavour to respect wildlife whose habitats are within the channels. Mechanical methods of clearance are employed using hydraulic excavators fitted with weedcutting baskets;
