Newborough Pumping Station

Constructed in 1973 as part of the North Level Major Improvement Scheme. It was designed to evacuate surplus water from an area of 3320 hectares of predominantly agricultural land, but also serves the expanding villages of Newborough, Crowland and Eye, with their associated industrial developments.

The pumping station consists of three 900mm diameter mixed flow pumps powered by Brush VTQHA748, 200HP electric motors. The pumps and motors are of the all weather type, the electrical switch gear being housed in a brick build control building. The discharge pipelines are some 140 metres in length outfalling into the River Welland. Total capacity is 273T/min or 4.64 cumecs.
